Our History
The earliest inhabitants of Barbados were indigenous groups who began arriving by canoe from South America (Venezuela's Orinoco Valley) around 350 CE. Among these were the Taino (Arawak) who set up several settlements on the island after 800 CE. The name Coconut Walk is the ancestral name of the area known as Silver Sands or Below Rock. On the site of the apartment was one of the Arawak settlements. The ancestor of Walwen just after the abolition of slavery settled at Coconut Walk which became a well-known fishing village. His great gran parents were instrumental in creating the village and expanding the community.
